Situational factors- cost (usually increased), availability of green products and education or communication of the benefits of purchasing green products.
These little speed bumps keep many of us from ethically consuming however these conditions can be overcome with a little ingenuity. Think about this the next time you have the option to buy a green product:
Will this product help me or my family? Besides thinking globally, think locally, think of your health and your longevity. Will these things improve for a few more pennies?
Think about how you can establish "green" practices in your everyday routines. Whether its recycling your unwanted items on Craigslist or consuming less all together. Little steps make a difference. You can be that leader for your reference group (peers) and show them the way and make it easier for them to follow along. Because we all know that little 'get on the band wagon game' we all play and how if one person does it others are sure to follow. But my advice is to lead that bandwagon and show off your skills and be the guru for others to look to. I may be too passionate for this lifestyle to really give tips but I can offer advice to those not yet participating-- The more you wait the worse it will get before it can get better. Again, little steps lead to large leaps. Once you start it yields to automaticity (eventually the action becomes automatic and no thinking or intention is required by the user). So start today, start tomorrow but start doing something and see if you don't feel better for doing it! Thats all for now- just a tidbit on going green! ENJOY!
